Is it too early to think spring 2016? I don’t think so.
Are you planning on buying or selling your home in Spring 2016? It’s time to push the pause button! Before you prepare the turkey, or deserts - that’s my designated task for Thanksgiving. Before you head out for Black Friday shopping, it is a good idea to pause, and check your goals for 2016.
If a house is in your future, don’t over do the turkey or the shopping. By all means don’t let the credit card offers pull down your credit score. 10% off may seem like a deal in the moment, however, if that store credit card hurts your credit rating by a few points it can cost you big. For example: on a standard 30-year fixed-rate mortgage, the monthly payment on a $200,000 loan would be $955 for a 4% mortgage versus $1074 for a 5% mortgage. That’s a monthly difference of $119.
“I’ll get the card for 10% off and close it after the holidays are over.” That’s fairly logical thinking. Who wouldn’t want to save money now? The problem is, closing accounts can also negatively impact your credit rating. I’m not trying to tell you what to do, just offering some valuable information. Eat all the tukey your heart desires! Shop Black Friday till you drop! It’s a tradition for some folks, I get that. Just take a moment to think hard about what you really want.
