Agent Safety ~ It's frightening how vulnerable we are.
We advertise our lives and tell the public “we make millions.” Why wouldn’t we be a target?
How do you stay safe? We advertise our lives and tell the public and shout “we make millions.” Why wouldn’t we be a target?
We advertise our families in an effort to share and connect with the public.
We share locations, dates and times we will be alone in a house. Isolated.
We can’t show property without turning our backs at some point. Even reaching for the lock box puts us in a precarious position.
How do you stay safe? Do you have a system? A plan? Who are you meeting? These are questions we have all asked in this industry. Especially the 60% who are female, however, men are vulnerable too.
Barbara Corcoran really hit's it out of the park in this must see video. I love the jewelry box idea. Top two tips:
Trust your gut.
Have an exit strategy.
Janice Tisdale’s story brings tears to my eyes. Thank God she survived. I think, keeping safety in the front of our minds is key. We have so much to focus on as Realtors® and often it’s all about others, what we can do for others. We forget ourselves and the position we put ourselves in while we try to make a living.
When I was in the convenience store business my radar was always running. When I started my day, when I completed my tasks, going to the bank with deposits, working shifts alone. The radar was always running just below the surface. We, as Realtors® need to function the same way. Keep your safety radar on. When you are showing houses, going into the office alone, going into a listing alone. Have a plan! Figure out what works for you. Just like all the other systems we use. Don’t wait for something bad to happen. I know what it feels like and it takes a long time to recover.
Please be safe my friends. Agent Safety ~ It's frightening how vulnerable we are.
